Default In a bit of bother :(

Having a bit of trouble with the P1 again Looks like the headcasket's gone again. My problem is, this is the 3rd time the engines been out and i'm getting a bit fed up. I'm begining to loose trust in the car. Bearing in mind my plans for this year, was plenty of track days and a trip to Nurburg. I'm getting itchy feet.

Do i repair the car again bearing in mind i'm not sure whats causing the hc failures? or buy a Honda S2000 which i've been wanting to try for a while.

Only thing is, I'l be lucky to get £7500 if i'm lucky for the P1. Spent loads on it
I really want to do more track days and i'm just not sure a turbo charged car is capable of doing them all the time reliably without costing an absolute fortune.

Any advice would be great

I know how you feel mate, even though my old Blob was bulletproof i was always weary about it, I knew nothing would happen but it's in the back of my mind! I'm gonna get the engine done on this one before anything goes wrong (hopefully). Hope things work out mate

What's the spec on the engine??

Do you have studs or bolts holding the heads down?

Standard sti bottom end. Bolts mate.

I have no issues with the build. A few issues i've had while driving with an evo and seat leon. My simtec let me know i was having some knock. Think it's died other a period of time.

Driving against the evo i had injector failure. Think its a combination of things.

Try again but this time use some studs instead of bolts. Don't give up now.

As Dylan said, try some studs Dar. Your going to have to repair it anyway before you sell, so worth a try. What boost are you running?

I'd stick to normal 99 or V-Power. Stay away from the meth stuff

Boost isn't too high Maybe worth asking Dyl to have a little look for you before you shell out on parts.

This might sound like a dull question but have you been re-using the head bolts or putting new in every time and have you had the heads / deck checked as well?

I believe the problem is in the cars electrics as the sub fan has not been working so the fan was wired up to a switch and the main fan seems to be operating at a higher temp than normal. So possible temp sensor issue which in turn has lead to the car running hotter.

I've looked over the electrics but haven't been able to find the fault with the sub fan which I think is down to a corroded connection as the near side light also has a main beam issue.

The build it's self was spot on with all Subaru torque settings valve clearances and both surfaces skimmed flat with new head bolts fitted.

Currently the car drives but the water level is dropping if driven on boost so before fixing the head gasket issue the electrics need checking over to ensure the sub fan is working.

Whether the car will be reliable enough to drive over to the Nurburgring and home after though is another question.

sorry to hear of your problems with the car mate - i've been there with my P1
Stick with it though and definately go for the studs instead of bolts - get yourself a nice set of ARP's

Unfortunatly i've finally had enough. The block is totally wrecked. Only thing of any good is the crank.

Going to be stripping very soon. Putting back to standard then px'ing it.

I'l be starting a for sale thread soon on Classifieds, when i've got the parts off and taken pics.

Ps. Anyone know of some standard suspension for sale?

You drama queen, The pistons, rods and crank are all in good order it's just cylinder number 4 which is distorted as the deck has warped. A 0.5mm over bore would be required and deck skim but on a open deck block it's not worth the expense.

Daz, I'd rebuild it and bring it back better than before.

Get hold of a CDB or SCDB and go for a forged build or why not a 2.1 stroker kit from Advanced Automotive.

I did consider the possibility of breaking my Impreza for about 0.1 seconds but quickly realised I'd rather have my car back on the road.

Don't get me wrong I could have just done the head gaskets and got rid of the car as well. The parts for the rebuild haven't been exactly cheap either but before long once it's rebuilt, mapped and I've upgraded the turbo it'll be capable of a lot more than it was before.

That S2000 does well against the Evo!
