Unhappy walbro upgrade wil i notice ant diference without remapping

as above im thinking of buying a walbro and am wondering if i will notice any diferance in power , 2001 newage wrx , decat k&n pannal exhaust and boost controller ,

The fuel pump alone wont make any difference to performance, it is more of a safety measure. It is the ECU which controls the amount of fuel the pump pumps. It is still a worth while modification though and essential if you take the car any further.

If i fitted one of these to my version 8 sti would it need to be mapped just for the fuel pump?was going just to change it meself.

As mentioned, does zero difference to BHP. Fuel pressure remains the same. The only exception is if the old pump was dying, sucking air through a damaged pickup pipe, or the filter bag was blocked.


The only difference an uprated pump does is it flows more fuel...so with a standard car all that happens is more fuel just goes straight back to the fuel tank via the return pipe.

The extra flow is only usefull if when the boost is raised and more fuel injected, where the increased fuel demand through the injectors can outstrip the OE pump's ability to supply it and maintain pressure.....This will be obvious with a fuel pressure gauge on a full power run.

But beware...you will then find your injectors aren't flowing enough so you have to replace them, or up the fuel pressure with an adjustable regulator, then you find the intercooler can't maintain charge temps so is replaced, then the turbo runs out puff, so replace that...then the clutch goes pop, so you upgrade that, then the engine goes pop, so you have to upgrade that...then the gearbox and diffs...etc
