Default turbo vf28

hi all, a friend has just bought a used vf28 turbo, upon looking at it, i have found NO up and down movement in shaft, but u can push the shaft back and forth thru turbo slightly,,,

IS THIS NORMAL OR NOT.

I wouldn't be using it mate,that is end float and realistically should have none.
If it had a touch and i mean half mil or so of up and down movement then it would be ok but end float is a no go as far as im concerned.

I have to say that I've seen a number of turbos like this subsequently fitted against my request and produce good results! I don't know how long they would have lasted though.
