wrapping the catalyst....any meaning??
Hello all,
Ok, here's my question : Currently having a Blitz Nur Spec R fitted with a jap-made (J-Speed) straight-through front pipe.
Recently the whole thing makes too much noise for me (guess I'm getting too old for that) and was thinking of refitting the original cat front pipe as I remember back then it wasn't that loud with only the Blitz fitted.
Now I have some Thermo insulation for front pipes, manifolds etc, so my question(s) are :
If I wrap the J-Speed one, does this eventually reduce the noise.
the other question is
Is there any point in wrapping the original front pipe included the catalyst and does the catalyst not get too hot for the insulation wrapping? According to the package, the insulation can withstand 950 degree is that ok for the catalyst?
Thanks for your usual (good) support,
Ramon

Wrapping the downpipe etc will reduce noise, particularly on the Stainless steel variety. The cat will not exceed 950 C, so you would be OK wrapping that if you want to. I do not hold with the theory of wrapping exhausts / manifolds to increase power. Whilst I accept the arguments about increasing thermal efficiency, I don't believe it will increase power and it adds extra weight and ends up smelling due to carrying oil / water etc.
