How can I interogate what this means ? Is the only way with the select monitor ?

The light has just come on with normal driving and stays on even after switching the engine off. Car starts and drives fine.

Should I be worried ?

My dealer is closed tomorrow because of a show, they're attending so any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ian

Hi Simon,

The car is standard except for the PPP and Optimax fuel.

It's not done it before, though I've only owned the car for 1 week.

Regards,

Ian

ian,
unless you can find some friendly soul with and OBD-2 your going to have to visit the dealer.
you should be ok driving it over the weekend, as i believe that anything really major causes the CEL to flash and will force the car in to 'limp home' mode.
if i'm not correct about this i'm sure someone will correct me!
sorry i can't be of more help m8.

I wouldn't worry too much mate.My CEL came home recently and it's just been into the dealer today and the fault was diagnosed as a cam sensor which will be replaced under warranty.Apparently, another common CEL error is for the crank position sensor.Just use your car as normal and then take it to the dealer once they're open again. It only takes em two mins to plug the select monitor into the port under the steering column of the MY01

Hope this helps and gives you a little reassurance?

Cheers,

Nick

Cool

Thanks for the re-assurance guys. I was hoping it was posible to see what the fault was prior to going to the dealers, but as it's runing ok, I'll take it easy over the weekend and not worry too much

Thanks,

Ian

Mine comes on too cos of the cam sensor problem - to be fixed next service.

The CEL should go off after 4 restarts without the problem occurring.

Cheers

Thanks Simon,

It's gone after 4 re-starts. I'll see what the Select monitor has to say. It does sound like the cam sensor too, though !

What I can't understand is why does the ECU need both the Cam position and the crank position ? Aren't they related ;-)? Or is this some clever cam belt snapping protection strategy ?

Regards,

Ian

Because it is a four stroke engine the ECU needs to know both the position of the crank and which cycle it is on (inlet/compression or expansion/exhaust). The cam sensor provides the second of the two, but is not accurate enough (it is less accurate and suffers from cyclic vibarations due to the cam profile).

Hope that helps.

Thumbs up

Hi Ian.

If you're still stuck, bring it over here and I'll check it with my Scan tool?

Mike.

I've just been to my local dealers and had the CEL, diagnosed as the cam sensor and the sensor replaced under warranty. Shame it's taken so long for my 'official' dealer to fit me in.

Big thanks to the 3 independent Scooby Specialists who all offered immediate assistance, with no 'too busy' excuses !!. It's just a shame my dealer's 6 miles from work and the closest independent is 60 miles away.

Cheers,

Ian
