Default Why does my car start like this?

I drive a classic 94 wrx sti and when i turn the key, sometimes the ignition lights dont come on. When they are on, i have to keep turning the key on and off rapidly to start it because if i just turn it normal it just clicks. I was thinking starter motor but then that would not explain the ignition lights sometimes not coming on. Has had a clidford concept 300 alarm fitted by insurance approved dealer with a button to start the car but it obly turns ignition on so wonder if it is something wrong with that.

Any ideas are appreciated guys.

Could be the alarm, but could also be dodgy contacts in the ignition switch, or wiring from it.

hi mate, firstly could be loose ignition barrel but the alarm has what is called a molex block this connects the brain to the ignition loom on the alarm now if u find the alarm box there is a big black box with blk wires on both sidesthere are 2 possie screws and 2 tamper proof screws but u can snip them off with some side cutters inside there are 2 white plugs give them a push together and put a cable tie around each of them so to hold them tight also check the wire are in the sockets tight too and also for any corrosion.........once checked all above the only thing between all this is the relays in the alarm them self but after fitting alarms for 15 years+ i have only known this once
