Default Hawkeye Vibration

Hi all,

I have a JDM Spec C with a loud vibration which seems to come from around the rear passenger door area.

This is very noticeable in high gears at low speeds.

It will also occur under acceleration, not speed dependant.

I have checked the exhaust and its hangers and they are all in place and the exhaust does not appear to be fouling on anything.

Reason I mention the exhaust is because thats what it sounds like, a loud resonance.

Any ideas?

It does sound like an exhaust related issue. Does it happen at a certain rev range? What exhaust do you have?

Thanks for the reply.

It sort of happens at a certain rev range, its more a case of when the engine reaches a certain resonance.

The exhaust is a full Milltek system with sports cat.

Yours does sound like an exhaust issue. Check the baffles in the muffler, it these are worn/loose inside the muffler, it could develop resonating vibrations at certain rpm point or range.

I had a similar issue with my old Astra GSI some time back. The baffles in the centre muffler became loose and caused the car to vibrate between 2500 - 2700 rpm. Got an exhaust shop weld a new universal muffler on, and problem solved.

In any case, you might wanna get an exhaust shop confirm it before you hack of the old muffler.

Do you still have the standard clutch ? Reason I ask is I have an Exedy twin plate on my Hawkeye STI and I get a vibration at around 1700-1900 rpm in the higher gears, i have asked a few Subaru specialists about the vibration and the general opinion is that it is caused by the twin plate being ever so slightly out of balance.

Dont think it is my clutch mate, the vibration is coming from the rear passenger door area, not from the gearbox area, but I suppose vibrations can travel!

I also suffered from this vibration!!!!

The best way i can describe it was say in 3rd or higher gears between 2k-2.5k rpm there would be a rattle, but mine sounds like it came from under the passenger seat.
I checked everything i could think of but couldnt find it for the life of me.
Until i had the car up on the ramp at my mates garage to replace my discs and pads and it was then that i noticed the 2 undertrays either side of the car.
Dont know why but i tapped the passenger one and could hear something inside it.

After removing a few clips found there was half a dozen stones in there, fitted it back and low and behold now the rattling has gone!!!

All i can say was it drove me insane!!

So check that first Dozza, you should be able to remove them with just jacking up the front of the car.
