Just how much extra advance do the mappers add?

A follow on to an earlier thread about how much extra power optimising the ignition timing gives you...

Assuming you run your car on adequate octane and don't go silly with the boost and control the charge temps and have very rich fuelling and thereby avoid knock, presumably you get the full ignition advance out of your map (Classic shape not Bugeyes which works differently).

Now I understand there are different ways of measuring advance between the ECUs, but can anyone give me an idea of how many extra degrees of advance is typically used and where in the rev range on the factory TMIC/turbo on MY99/00 when you remap?

Also is there some concensus as to whether to map for 7 or 9% CO on full boost?

Leaning too much, advancing too far, and boosting too high all end up with the "D" word so can anyone give me an idea of typical conservative safe alterations in timing.

Just how far off the pace is the original mapping for timing?
