Default Momentum 99ron

Thankyou Ian for pointing me to Tesco in Ystrad Mynach for 99ron.

I also discovered it in Newport and Ebbw Vale but not in Pontypool.

Just a little heads up if you didn't already know.

What kicked all the sudden apparent interest in Momentum was that until April I had been scoobless for a year so was sticking any old fuel in my oil burners.

When I picked up my latest scoob I reverted back to putting Shell V Power in it either from Malpas or Crumlin.

I hadnt developed the habit of looking for Tesco 99ron because at the time I had my last scoob I think you could only get 99ron in Cardiff.. and I hardly ever went near that garage.

In the new scoob I hadnt thought about 99ron, just went back to old ways.

Starting about two weeks ago I started having to make regular trips to Merthyr for work purposes so was looking for a Shell station en route. There isnt any but Ian (blue dragoon) noted that Ystrad tesco sell 99ron now branded as Momentum.

Even better I thought... so decided to have a search at the other Tesco sites for garages that also sell it. My other job takes me everywhere so I am afforded this opportunity.

Once I had done so I decided to share my finding with everyone else so if you prefer Momentum to V Power you know where to pick it up.

I can see that the start of this thread may give the impression Momentum is 'the next best thing' and somewhat different from 99ron. Its the same as tesco 99ron just given a nice name.

But the more places we all know of that sell better fuel than 95ron the less inconvenienced we are.

If your car is mapped to normal unleaded (UK Subaru WRX's) they it's OK. But when you run a few tanks through the ECU will "learn" that better higher octane petrol is being used and your perfomance would/should/might/possibly improve.

It's much better when it's mapped on higher Octane. Think cheap Lidl Vodka (32%) and Smirnoff Black (50%). You'll get a headache from both but it's a better quality one with Smirnoff

Better juice, better go.

The certificate I have for the installation of the Prodrive performance pack states that the car is mapped for 97ron minimum, or words to that effect.

I wrecked a couple of sensors on my car using 95ron. Always use 99ron these days as it's easy to get where I live.

When I had my Hawkeye WRX remapped by Bob Rawle he said that the minimum RON rating that we should be using is 97 due to the varying quality of fuel and how long it is in the tank (both your car's tank and the fuel station's tank) for.

He also said not to use BP Ultimate 97 as it causes more det than any other fuel when in an Impreza.

I bet.

Good to know there's 99ron in Aber tho, at least I can fill up without going out of my way. I am regularly up Aber for something, either seeing family or something.
