Default millers crx 75w-90 nt gearoil

has anyone ever used this oil in an my02 sti 6 speed and found good results regarding the stiffness and notchyness when sellecting gears ?i did an oil change with the gearbox last year and used castrol syntrax but got no real improvement,was reccomended the millers but dont want to waste £70 if it will not help much.also can i use the castrol syntrax (i have a litre left )in the rear diff at all ?

It's not the brand, but the weight that could make the box feel smoother, rather than notchy. That Millers weight is still the same as the recommended, so prob won't notice any difference, anyway.

Or just stick some sawdust in there...

i found my gear box a bit more notchy after changing the oil and i used the millers stuff, it gets alot better when the oil warms up a bit, i know when i can start giving it the beans then

Syncro gearboxes work by the serrated cones cutting through the oil film to gain enough friction to synchronise the individual gear speeds. Putting in the most wonderful super slippery synthetic could well prevent this and cause very notchy behavior. Don't know the details of the Millers oil but I use Redline MT90 (in track car Sierra gearbox, 75W/90 GL4) which is specifically formulated to make syncro operate well.

Handbook recommendation for Scoob 6 speed is 75W/90 GL5 so I'd look for this in a premium (Millers, Redline etc) with information that it is designed to help syncro engagement.

Just checked the Millers NT oil details on their website and it appears entirely suitable.

my experiance is that when im moving slow, around town say and not going very high in revs its worse changing gear,but when revs are higher it performes much better.only thing is its a daily drive so dont drive fast much,lol.

Its a very good oil so give it ago, you wont know till you try and the NT properties should in theory make it more "grippy" on the synchros. Another one to look at would be the Redline Lightweight Shock.

Guy, what would be your oil brand/weight of choice for the Classic MY99/00 STi 'box/diff?

A 7w-90 is ideal

If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Motul Gear 300, Silkolene Silktran Syn 5 and Millers TRX. The Castrol Syntrax, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives.
