Hey ppl few questions for the experienced scooby heads.
I bought a bugeye wrx wagon 52 plate in December had a couple issues since I bought it with drop links(fit new ones myself) and more recently the front 2 alloys both cracking after i had them powder coated. Any idea`s why this would have happened pls ?
I have also just noticed the N/S/R shocker leaking (wondered why it was a lil unsure around corners) So i`m looking for a set of second hand front and rear shox and springs inc mounts off a buyeye/newage sti ?? how much should I be looking at paying ? and is there a major difference between standard wrx and sti struts and springs if not i`ll just change both rear shox and not bother changing rest.
Plus is there anyway of finding out if it has been remapped ? Its had a stainless steel exhaust fitted I think from cat back and a K&N panel filter fitted but everything else seems pretty standard I think...... I have blown away cars I would have neva thought I would have done mind so I`m not sure weather its been mapped or i`m just used to driving our lasses VW 4mo.
If there is any just general info you can pass onto me that I should know then pls reply and let me know.
Anyway Thanks for reading my endless thread but new to this and still eager to find out more and learn about the baby ive just bought

A full set of second hand STi shocks and springs seem to go for £200-£250 ?
It would probably be worth speaking to Bren at Apex (look in the 'group buys' forum), he was offering new 'Apex' branded coilover kits at under £550 I think.
I am only guessing but the alloys cracking could be related to how they were prepared prior to the powdercoating ?
I presume that if they were sand or bead blasted, it might have caused stress fractures or revealed some pre existing ones ?
If the powdercoating process involves heating the wheels or 'baking' the coating onto them, excessive heat could probably cause some damage ?
Only suggestions though, I'm no expert !
If the damaged wheels are the standard factory fit ones, they should be cheap enough to replace via ebay or 'items for sale' on here ?

The aluminium has to be heated and cooled correctly to maintain the crystalline structure that gives it it's strength.
I sold my suspension for £40 !
I know someone with a very healthy but std. WRX saloon if you want to compare...

P.S. General info :- it's whether.... rain is weather

Stick to the same MY and it's a straight swap, the only issue is wear and age...
After seven years abuse mine were quite tired...
(Never quite got that inverted bit, they looked bog standard to me !)

On the STi, the heavy tube / piston part of the strut is attached to the chassis and the lighter tube only part is attached to the wheel...........reduces the mass of the bit which moves so more responsive (less inertial mass).
That's the theory LOL
