knocking noise from output shafts over bumps
hi guys,
First of all, I started getting a knocking noise over uneven surfaces, upon thurther investigation i found its coming from the output shaft/stub axles that protrude from the gearbox/front diff that the drive shafts push onto. I have the type where the drive shaft ends are female and push onto a short output shaft on each side. The shafts move in and out slightly causing a knocking noise.
I took the gearbox out and when i drained the oil the magnetic plug had small chunks of metal stuck to it, they look like they may have came from the inside of a bearing, they looked like bits of the bearing cage that holds the rollers in place. So i took it to subauru4U in newbury, they took the box/diff apart and reported that nothing is wrong and can't find anything damaged and then put the box back together again. (complete waste of money that was)
So i collected it from them and was just about to put it back in and noticed that the shafts still move in and out slightly causing a knocking.
is it normal for the output shafts to have end float like this?
where have the bits of metal stuck to the magnetic sump plug come from? they must have come from somewhere. Any ideas plz.
