I'm not getting this, apparently 150lives will be saved by lowering the drink drive limit? How? This isn't going to make any difference to someone who was going to drink and drive anyway.

The only people i can see being affected by this are peeps like me who would sometimes go for a single pint after work with my mates. A pint doesn't impair my judgement but i could now lose my license over it.

 

I agree. I tend to pop into the pub on Friday, have one beer with the boys, then go home. Looks like thats going to stop.

As for the limit. I think the better method is enforcement and more police cars on the road. Random stops just gives the police powers to abuse IMO.

Should these other factors carry stiff sentences as well?

Thing is Jamz , some of us out there are not 16 stone heffers - so 1 pint will impair judgement


Few years ago i would have thought this draconian but i was just thinking the other day it jus cannot be a coincidence that we are one of the few places in the world with a PUB culture and similarly a drink problem , nationally

of course other countries have cheap supermarket beer as well...

The people having one pint are not the ones mowing people down at zebra crossings are they?!
It's the ones who get tanked up and think they ate superman that are the problem.

I for one, fully support it

we should have a zero limit,..

no need for roadside breathalyser equipment.

A simple " alcohol" smelt on the suspects breath, would be grounds enough

to warrant arrest, then the correct test carried out at the local nick.

Also refusal to take test, & failing a detailed test at the local nick, should

carry a lifetime ban.

Well nicotine for one having an effect on the driver especially first thing in a morning then there's the small matter of holding a burning thing in your hands while trying to drive. If mobile phones are banned then why not cigarettes. Surely the druggies can go without until they stop?

 

That would do two things.....**** a lot of people off, and save a lot of time/money.

I take your point, but I'm going to play Devil's advocate here and suggest that there are double standards being applied.

The morning after a few drinks, can you even reliably tell if the reason you feel like crap is:

a) lack of sleep,
b) alcohol still present in your system,
c) hangover,
d) coming down with a cold?

Is it really appropriate to come down on one of these possible impairments like a ton of bricks, while more or less ignoring the others?

 

What's the point of this ... 150 lives saved is insignificant when the population is 60m. Leave it as is you loons

If smoking is banned in cars then so should everything else thats a distraction
Like changing radio channel/volume etc
The person drinking a cup of coffee/tea in the mornings
Drinking fizzy drinks
Eating sweets
Eating anything

As for the drink driving rule

I think its fair enough to be honest.

We'll what if you've not had much to eat, you've been to work early(say you got there at 7.30am and been up since 6am and its not 10pm)
I suspect 1 pint may we'll affect you alright
The limit now is for the morning after
Say you went out after work and had 6 pints or so, get home - in bed by 12 then up for 6am
The new limit would most likely let you keep your license.

Anyway - a drink/driver will still drink/drive regardless what the limit it.

I actually know someone that would regulary take a load of pints then drive home.
And to define a "load of pints" - this guy wouldn't think twice after 10 or 12 pints

 

Double the limit I say and let people enjoy themselves for a change. But only after 11 at night when old ladies and kids should be off the road,

They should also be made to have a sign on back of car with BP in large letters (Bit Pissed)

Just the goverment and those employed by the govmerant making noise and trying to justify their roles IMHO. Good timing though with the world cup on chamges of people DD will be higher than normal.
Cant see of any evidence how reducing the DD limit will make any differance at all.
Would like to know the figures of those caught driving whilst on on drugs compared to drink. I'm pretty certain which will be the higher of the two
