hi all. i have had no funny noises from my impreza but this morning as i went to accelerate in 3rd gear it jumped out. i went to put it back in which it did fine but it wont drive. got the same prob in 4th and 5th. the car drives in 1st 2nd and reverse. any common faults or ideas will be much appreciated.thanks

Yep mine had a similar problem, got it sorted with a new gearbox.
Can you get gears with engine off.?
No- shagged box mate.
Was quoted 1000 for a rebuild.
Find out your gearbox code its on the top of the bell housing on the nearside of I remember be something like ty752vn3aa.
If you have a ty754 box get hunting they can be hard to find. You need to match the code up with a new one. Or you'll be in trouble.

its a classic turbo 2000 my99. pretty much got the box out now but cant work out how the thrust bearing arm comes off???

 

r1c, i can select all gears just have no drive in 3rd 4th and 5th. thanks for your help and i will keep everyone posted with the outcome incase someone has this fault in future

 

Yeah mate that's what mine did, if it's a my99 it's probley a ty754vn1aa, like mine. Got mine from a breakers. Drain the oil, I had hand fulls of teeth.
Did you get your box out? There's a big Allen key cap in the side of the box, undo that, 12mm I think, get an m6 bolt 10mm head if I remember, screw that in the hole and give it a yank, pull the bar right out. Your box will come out. Don't think I forgot anything.

 

yeah got the box out.Sorry for the late reply have been on holiday. the input shaft had snapped and 3rd gear was on its way out, apparently pretty common fault as subaru have upgraded these parts, which brand new come to nearly a grand!! sooo imm after a second hand box. the number off the box was hi-ty754vn1aa.any ideas where i can get one from?i have found a few but they r different codes :-( thanks again for any help

 

Blimey ty754's are supposed to be stronger. Also to help a bit more (NOT) that gearbox number has no info in the transmittion chart!!!! If not sure of ratios etc just make sure you get gearbox and matching diff. I'd imagine somebody on here knows diff ratios of your car and maybe someone is selling one to fit yours.

 

yeah im not too fussed about the ratios cuz i cant imagine them being too far out, but like u say if i fit one with a different diff ill end up ripping my car in half lol
