Can I just swop my ecu ?

I have a 1996 wrx wagon rated at 220bhp standard,can I swop my ecu for one from another model giving better performance?.I have got a full Scooby Sport system & ITG panel filter, I am also interested in the Dawes device.Any comments welcome!!

There are major differences between my00< Euro cars and STi imports - both in the wiring to the ECU and mechanically.
Not sure on the WRX - not sure of differences (didn't think there was an import rex with 220, I thought they were 240?).
