I have a MY98 PPP Impreza turbo, i am getting a juddering when pulling away when the car is cold. This disappears when the car is heated up an only happens sometimes, could it be the clutch telling me it needs replacing?

Any ideas anybody????

 

its the 'normal' clutch judder quirk. U can try n get your dealer to replace, but most try to fob u off with 'they all do that' if its not slipping I wouldnt be too concerned though.

I forgot to say, as a temp fix, do a full ball standing start when its warmed up, rev to 4000rpm and let the clutch out slowly, then blast away. This will clean the clutch plate surface n get rid of the judder for a few weeks.

It's a very common problem on MY98 cars. I had two clutches replaced under warranty because of the same problem.

Subaru UK were replacing them under warranty, as long as the car hand't been abused, and hadn't done a lot of miles.

If your car is still under warranty, or you have recently bought it with a warranty, then I'd suggest taking it to the dealer and asking if they'll do the work under warranty.

Doing a few "spirited" starts, once the car is warm does help to clean up the clutch surfaces for a while, but the fix isn't permanent.

Cheers for the info, the car does have an extended warranty so it will be going back to the dealer this week.
