guys i wanna get my self a funky straight cut gear box does anyone know who has one for sale a sensible money ?

Silly question maybe but are you sure you want a straight cut dog box? Are you prepared to deal with the noise and maintenance requirements that come with them?

 

I wouldn't want a dog box on a road car if that's what it's for. I opted for a straight cut syncromesh PPG kit after breaking 2nd gear in my standard box. Still has the whining noise (which I love), but with normal gear changes. I still managed to break the transfer box and centre diff though so wish I had gone for the 6 speed as I ended up buying Type R drivetrain and getting the PPG swapped over so has cost me even more in the long run.

 

how much did ur gearbox cost ?

 

Was about £2200 I think, just for the gearset. Then about another £400 for 2 billet selector forks. Then on top of that the cost of fitting it into my gearbox, which I can't remember how much that was. Then after I broke the transfer box I think I paid about £1200 for a second hand Type R DCCD box, controller, R180 rear diff, R180 shafts, Type R rear hubs and brakes. Then had labour costs of swapping the PPG kit into the Type R box and then fitting everything into my car and wiring up the controller and removing my ABS. So total cost over the years now stands me at between 5-6K for the drivetrain not including clutch and flywheel. If I had bought a 6 speed in the first place I wouldn't have spent half that.

 

I run a dog box on my road car, when you get into it it is a lot better that syncro.

By the time it had all been fitted with plated diff bilet forks and gear set it was just over 5K But mine is only straight cut 1st and rest helicle but as they are chunky you still get the whine, **** on
