Crunching from 4th to 5th at high reves
Hi all wonder if you may be able to help
Im having some problems changing from 4th to 5th at high reves in my 54 plate STI. I've been told that its the synchromesh by a few people now and going through some simular cases on other forums it sound like that is exactly what the problem is. Thing is I've not long moved to Hertford and I'm really struggling to find a decent garage to take it to. If anyone could recomend a good garage/mechanic in the Hertfordshie or Cambridgeshire area that would be great.
Cheers
Nick

you don't say what the mileage is?
Do you know what oil is in the gearbox? this sometimes occurs when a fully synthetic fluid is used. I assume it's on it's second fill of transmission fluid? (30k service)

Cheers John,
It's got 73k on it, I have had someone say about the gearbox oil previous. I'm not sure what oil was used when it was changed last but i'm sure i could find out.
When this occours with the fully synthetic oil is it common to only effect 1 gear? or will it continue to effect the other gears?

At 73k it should be on it's third lot of fluid (two transmission fluid changes)
A good safe bet is Castrol Driveline, which is semi-synthetic, although at that mileage it could be worn synchromesh.
