Default Wrong oil for diff?

I did start another thread about but diff, but havent had much response!
Before i change the diff and waste my time, could anyone enlighten me?
Ive put MOTUL GEAR 300 oil in my rear diff(viscous) is this the wrong oil to use???
It was clunking went hot and going around corners! changed the oil,(which was pretty rank) for the MOTUL stuff, but still no better! could it be coz its to thin? or is the diff had it. ahhhhh annoying.

Motul 300 is 75W90 GL5, so its just what the diff should need, sorry sounds like new diff time!

jimscooby : would suggest a cheap thicker gear oil for the mean time and run it in figure eight for half hour when the clunking is gone then switch to a redline 75w90 gear oil

As already said the Motul Gear300 is ideal for the diff, no reason why it would make it miss behave.

Cheers

its done it since i got the car about a year ago, the obvious thing to do was to just change the oil. so would the thicker oil sort it or is the damage already done?

A thicker oil may well hide the noise, but if the diff is damaged then it will still be damaged even if you cant here it.

Cheers
