Evening all.
Right..... for the tech guys this one.
Car: 2002 "52" bugeye wrx.
Mods: Sport cat down pipe, de-cat mid pipe, stainless exhaust the rest. Green pannel filter. ECUTEC remap (JGM)
The fault: Happened tonight. Was driving in town (5mph) on a one way street. Needed to get past a learner driver, so as the lane turned into two i started to overtake (50% throttle)
The car was not very responsive and felt hesitant. About three seconds after i felt the hesitance, the engine light came on!
I checked my boost at that time and found the car was boosting @1.1 bar average. However after about a mile of driving the boost wouldn't go over 0.5 bar (is this a failsafe or the boost solenoid failing??!!!) The car still idles fine, no abnormal noises.
Stuck my head under the bonnet, no obvious pipes off/split, this includes me checking the boost and vacuum hoses.
Is there anyway to check what code is in the ECU without a fault code reader?!

Really need help on this one guys as i'm booked in with JGM for a tweak soon and want this sorted asap.

does your car not come with its own fault code reader under the steering column?

 

under the column?!! ive looked under there before. There are two green connectors that are under the dash that you can connect to make the fans and boost solenoid pulse. but thats all i know of personally. Whats it look like??

 

Anyone in the london area that has diagnostics, or could help me?? Really need to get this sorted.

 

You have to plug into a diagnostics code reader etc Matt.. you can only use the plugs under the dash on the classic.

Pop over to Surrey RR tomorrow evening if you want and I'll check it.

I know you had the boost solenoid issue and then a vacuum leak? could be related as now fixed.

Hi simon, thanks for the advise. Work is so busy i wouldn't be able to get to surry rr till about half six/seven!! Yeah, the boost controller made me think a little, however its been running absolutely perfect since. One of the guys here apparently has a fault reader. Going to whack that on and see what it tells me. The e-obd socket is behind the ashtray right??

 

no it is by your knees when sat in the drivers seat.

I am staying in the Woking area tonight so if you have no luck with the reader then drop me a text and you are welcome to pop over any time.

It is probably a sensor of some sort but until read it is guess work

Right.........the plot thickens.
Fault code P0327, knock sensor 1, circuit low bank1, or single sensor. I'm led to believe the sensor has either shorted or i have knock??!!
Scared now.

 

most likely faulty knock sensor.. cannot be knock as it is the code for LOW had it been HIGH input then yes a possibility.

Right then, off to subaru for a knock sensor then!! should i fit it? i take it bank one would be the drivers side and i'm also guessing the sensor is located under where the intercooler is? or should i wait till the 2nd when i come to see you???

 

bank 1 - most of the error codes refer to bank 1.. yet there is just one knock sensor.

it is under the inlet manifold.. you have to remove the intercooler to get to it yes

That is a shame, but i'll settle for your sound advise instead! Fiddly.......oh i just love fiddly, like working through a letterbox!! haha, i don't mind that as long as it stops my car from being beaten from the lights by black cabs!!

Damn- hind sight! Ordered it now anyway. Just located it! Deleted the memory and it hasn't returned....so far. Not too much of a pig do do. About an hours work i'd say. Recon thats why it might have been feeling a bit flat all this time simon?? OH! and by the way Anyone know the tightening torque for it??
