Hi , dont think it will be a straight bolt on jobbie,as your 2002 sti turbo is going to be a vf series turbo which has a front entry to the compressor housing.Assuming your 96 turbo is uk/wrx then it will probably have a td04/05 fitted to it which will be top entry turbos and has a 90 degree elbow on the compressor housing. However if your 96 turbo is an sti, then it should bolt on.

MY96 saloons had a top entry TDo5 whether it was a STI or WRX.

It will fit, you just need to buy a samco 90 degree elbow of correct ID and a joiner then your exsisting pipework can bolt straight to it.

It is a tight fit, Carl Davey manifold spacers help give a bit more room, or if you're feeling brave use the spacers and relocate the PS resevoir and then with a lot of DIY you can run pipework under the manifold like the later cars.

I have run a FE TD05-20g both as a top entry (with Smaco 90 deg bend) and now FE as below

If you do this, make sure you have the correct oil feed banjo to the turbo (ideally buy the turbo with the oil feed pipe/bolt) because the feed hole is different between the TD and VF turbos

Same pump, just newage feed/bracket in place of the resevoir that usually sits on top.

The resevoir (from a Jag XJ40) is now behind the air filter, you can see the pipes running to it.

Another way is replacing the MY93-6 resevoir with one from a MY97-8, then there is just enough room
