are platinum spark plugs ok
Hi there,
I was just about to post a similar question as i've been told to buy NGK PFR6S's for a relatively standard wrx and NGK PFR7S's for a tuned up vehicle. The manufacturers recommended plugs are NGK PFR6G, i have tried to find out what the last letter means i think it's to do with the electrode material but I realy don't know? and could do with finding out asap.( anyone)?
but what i have found out is the P stands for Platinum, the F is to do with the thread, R is resister, the 6 is the temperature but dont know what the last letter means
.
But to answer your question, theY already have platinum plugs in as standard. i've had replies saying NGK Iridium IX are a favourable choice but i realy don't know.

Are they the double tipped platinum plugs??
I spent 30mins talking to a guy from NGK at the Pistonheads show at the NEC recently and he seemed surprisingly honest! He said that unless you are running a highly tuned engine the standard double platinum tipped plugs issued by Subaru are so good that the change to Iridium really isnt necessary and not to waste your money.
Even when running with Iridium plugs the gains and benefits are marginal.
