jaguar x type

apologies to all if this is in the wrong forum or already been covered. have been looking at the ads for the new x type jag. 2.5 or 3litre v6 starting at £20.000. I have not had chance to read any write ups on these models re performance but I would assume with permanent all wheel drive, zf variable ratio power power steering, four channel anti-lock brakes etc. could these be considered a more refined up market version of a scooby, I appreciated that acceleration is probably slower but I would be interested in what the handling and cornering is like compared to a scooby, and being a jag it will be interesting to see what kind of depreciation they suffer from over the next couple of years as the purchase price obviously compares to uk prices for scoobys. The advert photo shows a very classy looking vehicle inside and out. Has any one out there read any write ups on this vehicle and what the general impressions of the testers were

hmmmm, I would not put them in the same league in std form.
Maybe a Sport is better, but the 3.0 auto was rolly, not that quick, did not have a lot of grip in corners (tyre issue involved), and dived horribly under brakes.
But then again I drive a B4 so not a good benchmark me thinks
As in the B4 makes the Jag look silly. For about 22 grand-ish you can make them look really daft all day in a D rev B4-RSK. I think Litchfields have some left...for a bit more you can get a nice leather interior, and the McIntosh audio is awesome.
Hope that helps a bit...

I don't like 'em personally, I did a 400-mile round trip in my partner's 3.0 X-type. Great on motorways (quiet, relaxed, very comfy) but hopeless on A roads, wallowing and floating. Not very quick either, and the slushbox didn't help, even when in sport mode.
There's a reason it's got 4-wheel drive, and it ain't because of rally ambitions -- it just doesn't handle well at all.

ISTR Car testing them together, I forget which engine. The last line was "You will be very tempted to go for the Jag just as long as you don't drop by the Subaru dealership first."

I test drove the 3 litre V6 model and I thought what a great car it was SE model BTW, cornered very well and the whole car drove as I would expect and yes I will be looking at one when the Scoob goes, not as quick as the Scoob but all the same a really nice motor

I changed my scoob for an X-type. Mine's a 3.0 Sport Manual...
I reckon that it is very good, but it is not the same type of car as a scooby. For a start it is quite a lot slower, but the handling IMHO is pretty good with the sports suspension.
I can't see anyone seriously considering both cars really, but it suited me as I had had the Scooby for three years and fancied a change.
