Just seen a HKS manifold at GGR, looks impressive. Anyone fitted one to there scooby. Been told that it increases the torque and makes the scooby better in mid-range ?

Any views?

Is it an "equal length" exhaust manifold you have seen?

As for benefits, I believe its about 25% increase in torque.

Cheers, MD.

The HKS manifold is a tubular 4 into 1 design, it isn't equal length, but is larger bore than most. I have one on my car

AFAICT it primarily helps spool up on bigger turbos (TD05 and VF22 etc) so yes it can help the mid range and torque from the the 3000 rpm pick up point...

Sounds good too

25% increase in torque sounds impressive. 54lbft? From what starting point?

A While ago some guy from Canada was advertising his own design but looked similar to the HKS for about £500, any body remember the name of the company ?

i read that the disadvantage to fitting a manifold is that the off beat boxer exhaust note will disappear!!! this was mentioned at the bottom of the exhaust section in the Performance Subaru site...

Only if it's equal-length, though.

nom, not true.

All tubular exhaust manifolds will lose the boxer sound.

It comes from the resonance qualities of the cast manifold combined with the unequal length. remove either, and it tends to disappear.

The HKS headers are far from equal length, in fact even the equal length ones are still quite a way off.

I had the mrt headers on mine, which of the tubular headers I have heard, were the most boxer sounding of the lot. They didnt have a large diameter, but they sounded incredible!

Didnt check power before and after, dont really believe in doin that. Car felt incredible after some tweaking of the map. I can tell you without tweaking, it certainly was running incredibly lean, which does seem to suggest it had seriously improved volumetric eficiency.

As I fitted my manifold at the same time as the FMIC I can't comment on the difference it made on it's own.

But, a friend of mine fitted the HKS manifold to his STi V Type R - inspiring me - then fitted the same FMIC as me - inspired by me

He tells me that in his opinion the manifold made more of a difference to the way the car felt on the road than the FMIC did when he added that later!

This could of course be attributed to the fact that where he has got to now on tuning is about as far as you can go without cracking open the block and fitting stronger internals!

Don't confuse dyno figure with the way the car feels btw

Im buying one with equal length manifold.
At the mo its got an sti bb on which is quiet as hell, but you can just about make out the subaru burble, am wondering if a nice scoobysport backbox will make much of a difference in sound.
It also has decatted downpipe, high flow centre cat.
Any idea what sort of sound I will get, will it be the typical subaru sound or more like the wrc cars??

Rog.
