I'm interested in upgrading the brakes on my '05 WRX. Obviously decent aftermarket pads / discs will improve fade resistance, but I'm looking for more bite and strength. Far as I can tell this means getting a 6-pot upgrade.

Anyone got any advice on good kits, whether I need to upgrade the rears if I do the fronts, necessity to fit larger wheels than the standard 17s, etc?

Any wise words much appreciated!

 

For road use you could fit early STI wheels and Brembos to yours, with up-rated pads, at a sensible cost.

For track six pots etc., at a fair old price. Bez has K-sports under std. WRX wheels.

I'll second the brembo upgrade on a wrx, really made a difference to mine, and I have only done the fronts not got round to fitting them on the back yet

 

You can fit a godspeed upgrade under your WRX wheels (just)

Short-term (as in now, 'cos they're shot!) I need to replace my front discs and pads. I've been recommended EBC Turbo groove discs and Red Stuff pads, which are the same price fitted as OEM Subaru discs / pads would be. Has anyone got any experience of these EBC parts? Are they generally held in good regard for moderate to fast road use?

 

For OEM replacements I'd go for Performance Friction kit

hi mate,previous to my wrx 2005,i had 2 evo's the first had standard brakes that were good,the second had grooved and uprated pads the braking difference was hugely better on the second evo,only 7 weeks ago i had a civic type r 2004 facelift,anyway it had standard brakes,and thought they were awfull,i could hit the brakes hard in the dry,and were very poor.brake fade was evident,i figured from the evo experience i could upgrade the brakes,so went for the ebc grooved and drilled discs with red stuff pads,and the difference was awsome,to say the least,i never had brake fade,i could stop the car like at 50% shorter distance.well worth the money.and i will be doing the same soon to my wrx,although after using ebc on the civic and an unknown brand disc on the evo there was no difference,pads on the other hand will need upgrading.so with my wrx i will not go for the ebc as they are way expensive,but will go for other branded grooved discs.and fit red stuff pads.hope this helps.

 

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Not sure what I'll end up going for as Tarox stuff is also around the same price and seems to get good reviews. Too much choice out there if you're new to this!

try godspeed discs as they are well priced. But then again when I fitted my front brembos and sti wheels after selling my own stuff the upgrade was under £400 so well worth considering before you shell out on new parts
