Advice needed 94 Turbo 2000.

Default Advice needed 94 Turbo 2000.

Right basically I have a 1994 Turbo 2000 Wagon, I'm pretty sure my head gaskets are leaking somewhere. Thought it was just a leaking radiator. But since changing radiator I'm getting a bubbling which turns into a froth after a hard drive in my little expansion tank thing by the battery, after 10 mins or so it goes away. So I'm guessing its not fully gone but leaking under high pressure?

What would be the best way to go about repairing it..

1. New motor? What fits? WRX?, STi? or just Turbo 2000

2. New heads and gaskets, keep current bottom end and just get them fitted with new gaskets. But then will the cost of this be the same as just changing my current headgaskets and keeping my existing head?

3. Just get it into a garage to have the headgaskets changed on my current motor?

Basically, which would work out cheapest labour wise? And which out of those 3 would be the best option..

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Question

Do you have a basic ballpark amount that you're prepared to spend on getting it sorted?

If so, this will better help us to tell you what your best option is, so that costs don't spiral out of your control...

There isnt really a budget, but I'd much prefer to keep the price down as much as poss!

I'd book it in for HGs replacement and go from there...

If you take it to API then you'll get a proper job done and, the last time I enquired, he only charged £700 +VAT (so £805 all in before the new year).

This is assuming the heads/block surfaces are okay and just need cleaning and truing up. The price does include both HGs (obviously ) and Dave, as a matter of course, fits the much stronger metal STi v.1-4 jobs (these alone take up c.£120 of that £805 ).

Should there be further issues or other worthwhile things to replace "while he's in there" lol, then Dave will always work out the best route for you to go down within any given budget.

Give him a ring - he'll offer nothing but sound advice...

Indeed. Which is why API's HGs replacement menu price is pretty darned good IMHO.

I think I will go down this route. I like the sound of the stronger metal gaskets being fitted.

If that car has done many miles then I suspect that the bottom end will fail fairly soon after the head gaskets are done, It often happens that way.

I and most other reputable tuners / specialists would be reluctant to just do the head gaskets on an older car, for that very reason.

There is no sense to do a £700.00 + VAT job and leave it still vulnerable I'd go stitch in time and just refresh the crank bearings and possibly a new set of piston rings.

If the mileage is sensible - say up to 85-90,000 miles that should do it, Above that sort of mileage, I think we may be looking at a bigger job. Certainly one that will last and be value for money.

None of us tuners want someone on here telling stories about an engine going bang soon after X or Y or Z did my head gaskets.
