Default How do you deal with tailgaters

I know this topic has been talked about before but......

The past few days I have had my NOS UK2000 out and about, Now it looks completely standard, nice and shiny and to be honest a bit like an old mans Impreza.
I have found that on at least 5 occasions (twice I have had to get out of the car to chat about it) people have been right up my chuff.

If this was an old rotter of a car I would just bang the anchors on and be done with it, but this is my pride and joy.
So the question is this, if you dont want to write the car off how do you deal with tailgaters.

PS. Yes 3 of them were Audi's!!

Bimble along at the speed limit, which I never ever break, to **** them off.

It depends on which vehicle I have selected to drive, if I have selected a fast one, I leave them, if I have selected a slow one I slam on...

I'll slow down to about 2mph under the limit.

Play them at their own game and bonnet-gate them. Slow down a bit.

Always slow down, until you reach either a good overtake point such as a stretch of dual, or a change of limit up, then as they try to go for it muller them. I have lots of fun like this in my Fabia as people simply don't expect the mid-range surge of acceleration from a grotty little 5-door hunchback diesel Then, as the road resumes to normal, slow right back down to allow them to catch up and hold them up some more

do what they do in every other country apart from UK, move over and let the car that wants to go faster go past. (until it happens to me of course lol)

keep a handfull of old cd's that you no longer like (or the wifes) and launch them out the sunroof. Normally works quite well

Just drive my own drive, pretty much like I do every time I go out, I move over when it is clear and drive a tthe speed limits or raod conditions, its tough for them if they want to get past, I have also stopped to talk to people before ;-)

I slow down to around 10mph to **** them off. Maintain that for a few minutes, then quickly accelerate away from them back up to the speed limit.

If it some little chav ****, again slow down to 10mph. Then wait till they pull up beside me, then floor it.
That only works if the road ahead is safe.

Braking will only annoy someone that is behind you, why don't you just pull over as I'm pretty sure if someone is close to your rear bumper they want to be past you.

When i had my MY2000, a quick squirt of the headlamp washers worked wonders

The fluid would "invisibly" waft around the side of the car then rise up and spray the windscreen of anyone who was driving too close.

All but the thickest of tail-gaters would get the message after a couple of doses.

I drive sensibly and then let them overtake at the soonest opportunity. Life's too short to have a nobend right up your chuff.

May be I'm getting old but I can't be bothered with the ***** waving anymore

I found that having an antilag switch worked wonders as putting it on whilst running along would put fabulous flames out of the back as well as a few bangs like rifle shots.

Worked every time.

Now I have the GT3 it doesn't happen

Sorry but I feel I have to relate this TRUE story to you about this very subject. Firstly I'm old !!! 47 my first car on the road was inherited from my Dad. A Rover 110 - 2.6 liter 6 cyl but a beast of a car.

One day while still an apprentice left the training school with a mate in the passenger seat and drove home. At a set of red lights on a dual carriageway a white van pulls up behind. Lights change and off we go.... this van is right up my **** so I put my foot down and he's still there brake tested him still there. We get away from the other traffic and he decides to try and pass on the inside So I obviously pulled across to block him. He pulls out to outside lane and pulls up beside of me........... I look across and f**k me whats written down the side of the van ??????????????? POLICE Pants are well and truly pooed at this stage.

He pulled me over got us both out of the car, asked for documents which I had with me ( always carried cos of type of car and my age- 18 - got stopped min weekly ) Asked why I did what I did and I told him he was driving too close. Gave me a load of guff and his last words were ( back to the days of endorsements - 3 and your banned. I already had 2 - off my motorbike another funny story) " another endorsement and your banned, get in your car and **** off".

My brother in law at the time - a copper - reckons he was probably only a dog handler or scenes of crimes guy.

Normally I just let them overtake and get on with it. I find the worst tailgaters will do it in really dangerous scenarios where if you were to remonstrate with them by putting your foot don or slowing right down, you'd risk causing an accident. Let the ***** get on with it! If they think screaming past an Impreza burbling along at 30mph in 4th at 1500 rpm is an achievement worth driving like a prat for, then they're unlikely to maintain an insurance record good enough to ever be able to buy one and realise just how misguided they are!

If it's safe and they're really getting on my nerves, I'll briefly show em wwhat a 350bhp classic can do in order to put a bit of distance between us, before slowing down again. They usually get the message then!

I left foot brake enough to activate the brake lights but not enough to slow down. I then either maintain the same speed or accelerate a bit.

If that fails I slow right down repeatedly. If that fails it's usually a road rage incident!

Slow down, speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down, speed up etc

I find that they get so frustrated of constantly having to adjust their speed they tend to back off naturally.

Doesn't really bother me as I'm just aching for someone to hit my car up the chuff as my neck is already fubared & I need to get it sorted out properly & a few extra quid never comes amiss...

This is one thing that irritates me beyond belief

The worst offenders are my own sex. School run, there they are, so bloody close I feel like stopping, getting out and asking if they want a lift

I try to ignore them, but it is very difficult

In my mind tailgaters are threatening your safety far more than some aggressive muppet at a pub/on the street pushing you around a bit.

I hate them with a passion. I had a van on my **** when cycling this morning - about a foot from the back wheel. He then just pushed past and I had to leap out of the way. Reg no. and van name and type logged for future reference. It's really not very clever to road rage someone in these parts (seen the van a few times before) - highly likely to see it again...

Did it have a sticker in the back saying "Rottweilers in Transit"
