i have a turbo 2000 and im thinking up changing the ecu to a sti one. the question is. is it worth the £60-£100 spend and what part number ecu am i looking for. i think the u6 is the v3 sti 3 plug ecu but i have heard it could cause big engine probs with the raised rev limit and boost.

 

your prob best going for an aftermarket ecu, ive got a 97 uk spec and a apexi ecu, it has made a massive difference and you can control the rev limiter and boost etc..

Well to start with it wont work, and the next thing is that if it did work it would eventually blow your engine up, so not really advisable.
As scooby350bhp said, aftermarket ecu and then mapped.

i nearly did what you're thinking of ages ago i even still have the sti ecu in my garage. it's not just a case of plugging it in and off you go. you would need to swap the cam and crank wires on the ecu loom and the wire for your coded key (fuel pump) which is not a major task in itself. then you would need matching injectors and turbo to go with the new ecu.
most importantly as mentioned above though your engine (weaker open deck block) has different heads and different cams to the sti so chances are at some point it would go pop.

if you want power on the cheap so to speak you could only swap your ecu with a 97/98 pro-drive uk2000 one but i think that only gives you a few extra horses.

if you want to do the job properly you need a aftermarket mapable ecu which in all likely hood is going to cost in excess of £1000 and if spending that would you really be happy with just under 300bhp tops. so it's at that point people tend to change the injectors (ie 440's) and a new turbo (ie vf35) then with mapping you would see yourself between 320 - 340bhp.

remember do everything you want first and map only once ! cheapest way.
