Hi what is the dip stick near the turbo and what goes in it also how do you fill it up it looks pink to me is that correct.Just checked it and it is empty.

 

Thats for the gearbox oil, you have to top it up thru the dipstick pipe,
Could be a good time to drop the oil and replace(snytrax halfords) it takes 4ltrs and can help gear changes feel better anyway if its done a few miles.

Get a funnel put it in the tube and fill it up use castrol syntrax 75w90 iirc

Transmission oil - it's a reddy/pink colour, get some in, to the "full" oil level indicated...

 

is it worth dumpping it all out or just fill it as it does not even read on the dipstick.

 

Personally I'd dump out the old stuff rather than risk contaminating the new oil. I think the drain plug is easy enough to get to. Not sure how old your car is, or if you know the history of it, but I may be worth doing the rear diff oil at the same time. At least you know when the were both changed then!

 

hi mine is a 2000 classic turbo and does the rear or front diff take the same stuff ie syntrax as the gearbox OH and i will have to change all of it as mine is red at the mo and sytrax is like an oil colour guess not good to mix.

 

your not supposed to fill it right up ! your supposed to leave a bit for expansion, and read the level when hot

where are the drain plugs for the gearbox and diffs as i want to do mine soon. thanks guys

 

Did mine the other week my00, the back is p--s easy to do. First undo and remove the two drive bolts takes less then 1 litre, so be sure to put a container under the diff to catch the old oil. Clean the magnetic plug the bottom 1, screw back in tight but not over tight, then fill with your choice of oil fill via the top plug (it's full when oil starts to run out) i used the syntrax driveline as people told me on here it was best for my car, same as there telling you. Then srew back rear diff done.
As for the gearbox well this is easy but you need a jack, jack the front of the car up( i jacked the right or driver side) up so the front wheel is clear of the ground, then you can get under the car just enough to undo the gearbox bolt, its in the middle and when under the car you can't miss it. This takes 4litres so you will need a bigger container, you will need the lowest in hight you can find, because when the oil is drained it's not empty as it's on the jack so lower the car off the jack till no more oil comes out. This is why you need a low container. Put the jack back under, Clean the plug this is also magnetic put back in tight, lower car fill via dipstick using funnel Job done.

nice ne thanks for that asked a question here and people are very helpfull.I did here someone somewhere saying there is a drain also on the front diff to get more out or is that on the newer ones and not the classic.
