Default Play in the front diff

Hi subaru gurus........ need help

Had a knock when taking up drive from the passenger side front footwell so climbed underneath for a look and happened to grab the driveshaft where it leaves the diffrwential casing and was suprised by the amount of room it had up and down.... is this normal????? should it be tight as a mouses ear or should it have some free play. Both the left and the right driveshafts have the same amount of play. I checked the rear and it apperas to has a lot less movement. If there is a problem with the front diff some advise on curing it would be greatly appreciated. cheers

Its not the diff its just the driveshaft cups moving on the splines as they come out the box.
