Default need help asap about dvla inspection

hi all,

i applied to change the regon my car last week and now have a reply from the local office to say they want to inspect my veichle.
its been declared off the road for the past 14months but back on the road for 2 weeks now and i have mot'd it tax and its allways been insured, i need to know what inspection they are going to carry out,
the car has been off the road due to mod's being carried out currently running in the engine, its now got a 2.5 block but my existing heads and its modded for 500bhp, ppg gearset straight through exhaust,
i need to know what is to be inspected as the dvla do not know of th engine swap plus the emmisons will be wrong,

thanks all,
mark.

What is a change of regon?

They'll probably check the chassis number, engine, gearbox codes etc to make sure they all tally up and not made up of stolen parts probably. I don't think they'll be to pleased with not knowing of the engine swap and the de cats. Well that's just what i'd think they chack anyway, hopefully someone in the know will be able to help you out fella.

It should all be declared, if they find you have not told them everything they may just impound your car (even crush it )
This is why the V5 has a part saying any changes send them off with the new bits (engine number etc and cc change, paint colour change etc etc).
They wont just send some muppet round, they will send a qualified mechanic who will check your car over 100%

Don't try to hide any numbers, this will set off massive alarm bells if they notice it!!

Easiest thing to do would be to ring them and ask what they will be checking. Make out "you are very particular and don't want them inspecting anything other than your car in a perfect condition" They should let you know what they will be looking for, its usually done in a bay at the registration centre, so im not sure how many "mechanics" they have behind those counters of theirs! you doing it at the colchester one caton??

I think most people declare exhaust modifications
And I dont see any sarcasm in this post, just an uninsured car as the engine has not been declared to the insurance co (making the insurance invalid).

Try the vosa website - they might check it the sameway as a salvage repair due to the time between taking off the road and reregistering it

The trouble with public forums is that you don't always get what you expect, and if you come across as a muppet, people will be inclined to respond as such.

Whether being run in or not, the engine's displacement will still be 25% bigger than your insurance policy says it is. You have a legal obligation to declare the mods to the insurer before taking the car onto the public highway, and you are committing an offence by driving the car in the meantime on a policy you know to be inaccurate. What would you do if you had an accident between now and then?

If he had a accident he would say he was only running it in till his renewal in October when he was going to pay the extra.

This is the problem now with the car market anyone can buy a Subaru just not everyone can afford to run one and pay the correct insurance

ive taken cat c cars to vosa in bristol, they check the car over for 20 mins ish and your not allowed to see as they prob have some ways to check for stolen parts they dont want you to know about. its mainly just id checks to make sure your not ringing etc. if its for a plate change and theyre sending someone to you, last time i had this it was just a check of chassis numbers and i even got the original number back as windows were etched.

I doubt a magistrate would look on an explanation like that with much sympathy.
