Hi av had my subaru turbo2000 1999 model a few months now just had a few mods done had my turbo upgraded to a vf28 from a tbo4 along with decat from turbo and stainless manifold my car was all standad untill the mods. before the mods my cars boost would kick inn fast wen a put my foot down and just be off a dont no if this is down to remap but my car doesnt seem to pull like it did sounds the part and still boost just no where near as quick. any help please

hi there,the td04 is a very small but quick spooling turbo that runs out of puff higher up the rev change,changing it to a larger turbo will give a little more lag,probably what you are feeling.a remap will transform your car and will be a safer bet when changing to a larger turbo,weigh the cost of a remap up against a knackered engine,not saying its going to happen but better to be safe and with a good map,it will give you around 300bhp with the vf28,better fuel econimy(than running these mods unmapped),better road manners ect but most importantly reliable thanks bryan

ive done the pretty much the same change on my 98 uk turbo and the vf28 made a much stronger pull after 3000ish rpm than the tdo4 did. a remap on ur car would be a good idea as its not to expensive, mine being a 98 is gonna be about 1k. only differences i can think and you might already have them fitted but i have a larger top mount intercooler, ported standard headers and upped the fuel pressure to 3.2bar with an adjustable reg. oh and a dawes manual boost controller set at 1.2bar for now.

did you change the oil banjo bolts when fitting the vf28? or use the ones for the td04? reason is the vf28 uses roller bearings and doesnt need as much oil going thru it so the banjo bolt hole is much smaller than the td04 one.

cheers there lads it was the garage that done it so a dont no about the banjo bolts. before a had my vf28 an new headers fitted my car was unreal fast but now there onit doesnt seem to be that fast not that am tryin to push it coz a know it needs remap. boost 1.2 just takes so long to get there unlike before it would put you back inn your seat doesnt pull strong at all now. will all this be down to a remap or wot coz its realy getin to me know lol

sounds to like u might have the wrong banjo bolt, when its to big it feed to much oil to the bearings and slows them down hell of a lot and my also pop the oil seals. did the turbo have the oil pipes attached when u bought it?

im hitting 1.2 bar easy by 3000ish rpm its a really good turbo. maybe you have a boost leak somewere...

year there the rite banjo bolts mate and the oil pipes was attached. a shud get sum kick without remap its realy got me puzzled only otha thing if not turbo cud the new headers do this coz its the only big mods av done. av only drove it from the garage sounds class am just parking it up til a get this solved.

ive got not experience with aftermarket headers but i have heard they are not needed untill higherpower 400+ is required. not 100% on this tho. maybe some of the big guns might comment on this, JGM or maybe andyF.
after market headers have a lot more pipe with them will take a lot more exhaust to get the same speed of gas to spin the turbo as the standard headers.
