Default Ref: For Sale Area Overhaul.

Hi Everyone,
I am looking for some feedback as I personaly feel the commercial area could do with a review to make it a little more user friendly and easier to target specific types of item for sale.

As an example, I would like to make it a little more like this:

But not knowing Scoobys as well as you guys I am struggling to make a workable list of models and areas and wonder if any of you have any suggestions as to how you would like it to work?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can give.

You could have the sale items in model like this
Classic
Bugeye
Blobeye
Hawkeye
Newage Hatch

It would make looking for bits and bobs more easy.

Only problem is that there are a lot of parts which are interchangeable between model years - far more so than for most other cars.

I'd suggest instead breaking it down by component type, ie. have sections for engine parts, suspension, interior and so on.

The fun part will be trying to redistribute existing topics into the correct rooms. Doh.

Am I to presume from the lack of interest that most members think its perfectly ok as it is? I am happy to leave well enough alone if that is the case...

I think it is fine as it is but if you are going to change it the above changes would be best.

The FS forum is quite sow nowadays anyhow, so don't see the need to put things in categories.

Needs updating. The problem i have with most for sale sections on forums is there is too much non specific information.

I personally think there should be:

Parts for Sale
Breaking
Cars for Sale
General for sale

Because these are few categories i think you would need to impliment some code which lets you filter/restricts the title type.

Basically auto trader and ebay are good ways to make a selling interface, and i think it would be good to emulate those ont he forum. A proper car selling section with filters, pictures, prices, over view would remove all the generaic adverts with hard to read information and no price.

As for the parts section, the current forum is ok. Just only have one section for parts.

Id like a breaking section, most cars take a long time to break, so it will be easier for us to find them isntead of in the parts section which typically has a high post turn over, and the broken thread will get lost into the abyss.

I got tons of ideas from lots of forums. If you wanna hear about some ideas send me a PM and ill give u my msn adr.

Cheers
CHris

It does need sorting out really... I would love to see it split up into the different models (Classic, Bug Eye...) which means its easyer to look for parts that are for just your car.

Would also be nice to have a breaking section, where people could just post pictures of their car, and state what is available and what has been sold

Stu, I personally think it's fine the way it is. Ain't broke don't fix it kind of way.

Separating things, i.e: classic, bug, blob isn't going to work, as lots of parts are interchangable(sp) through the model year. For example I have an Sti 10 rear diffuser on my version 1.

Likewise I think separating things in to categories such as, wheels, brakes, transmission etc, would be a waste of time as quite a lot of people have the inability to read ( ), therefore most threads would have to be moved to the correct section, adding to the mods workload.

I like the idea above, not having cars for sale mixed in with parts. Also the cars breaking section is a canny idea - however are there enough threads to warrant it.

Just my two penneth.

How about a PistonHeads style cop-out, with everything put in a subforum titled: 'For Sale Section Archive'?

Easy

nah i agree without splitting the parts up

Parts are parts like. They just need clear titles of whats for sale which is up to the op.

These seems plenty of breaking threads which have seem to all be in the other private sale section which works quite well. Like a reverse project thread lol

Def the car for sale section is fine on its own, but it needs to be more like a car classifieds, than just random posts. Even if you dont impliment filtering, a pic of the car, price, make model year etc compulsory in a uniform way.

Really keep the parts not split. if i have wheels, a seat, and a bumper ducting to sell i dont really wanna make 3 threads which ill have to keep an eye on when that can be put in the title easy enough. Also when you think navigation and selling you dont want dead ends. If i have 3 separate threads, the person buying might want two items but never find out im selling them also without asking/me telling.

If i have more, then you get the usual Classic stuff/garage clear out which works fine to me.

So yeah i vote for what i said above. with the only difference being the car section more like a car classifieds than posts on a forum...

dont split parts by make model or type please

Split the parts up into the different sections, i.e. Engine, interior, trim etc

Separate section for cars beign broken would be good, especially if it had subsections of: Classic, Bugeye, Blobeye, Hawkeye & Hatch

all IMHO

To add to what's already been said I think we could do with a couple of additional sections like:

Non car related
Breaking
Cars for sale

Please don't split up the general for sale section into model though as has already been said, many parts are interchangeable between many different models. I don't think we need the general for sale splitting into genre of part (ie engine, wheels, styling etc.) either for the same reasons scoobyc has already mentioned.

To go one step further than the above posts I personally would like to see pictures and prices made mandatory with all adverts (i am aware that prices are required now - a positive move imo) I think that pictures can say far more than any type can about the products in question. Everyone has a camera phone or camera they can take pics with and to use the excuse 'i don't know how to get them on here' is pitiful.

To summarise, I don't think the for sale section needs an overhaul, just a little tweak to make it more user friendly
