Default Which 6 speed gearbox?

Im currently running an STi 5 Type r gearbox with the R180 Diff, bigger rear driveshafts, hubs etc on a 1995 WRX. DCCD is currently controlled by a Neetronics Controller. Ive just had a 2.5ltr engine conversion done and base map done by JGM. Im thinking that after the engine is finished the gearbox won’t last all that long so need to look at gearbox options.

Because i already have the rear hubs and driveshafts etc to support a R180 it would be nice if i could just get a 6 speed box and R180 diff with the correct ratios.

If DCCD can be run with the neetronics controller on the 6 speed box which box number should i be looking for?

Your current rear diff will be a 4.44 which won't match the 3.9 front diff of any of the 6 speeds so you'll need to find a 3.9 CWP and get it swapped over for the 4.44 or find a complete 3.9 R180.

re box number - if you sort the back end then it doesn't matter much other than making sure it's a dccd. See here The SPDA - Transmission Chart

So they are all the same sort of strength?

I would like loger ratios if at all possible but does the UK 6 speeds come with a R160 rear diff?

all 6 speeds are pretty much bulletproof.

late Forester 6 speed has long ratios but costs loads. My 04 spec c box runs to around 165mph at 7500rpm

i would get a non dccd 6 speed off a JDM sti bugeye so to save the hassle of running a ABS sensor reading off the hub as well as the yaw sensor. auto mode on the dccd 6 speed will read off these reading or abs will not work properly

Can you not run them in manual mode like the old boxes?

You can put the DCCD six speed on, the ONLY functionality you wont have is the auto mode. It will work exactly as the current DCCD box except it will be six speed and bullet proof.

Its what I shall be using on my 600bhp Version 3 Type R.

Ah cheers Daz. Ive aked a few people and think an 04 USDM box seems to be pretty good ratios.

Ive also seen that you can get an aftermarket DCCD-A controller with extra sensors built in to do the auto stuff.

Personally mate I think you have one of the best aftermarket controllers out there. The auto mode isn't all its cracked up to be.

I'd do a straight swap and see how you get on with it. You could always add better functionality later on.

TY856 WB4JA, but they all have the same ratios until you get to the Forester - just you get a Suretrac front diff with some and not with others - see here The SPDA - Transmission Chart

Anyone have a list of 6 speed gearbox codes, inc DCCD? Also, is the USDM box the same on input shaft of 24 splines?

Swisston - the link above shows the gearbox codes.

Just out of intrest, is there any reason for not using the latest box? I see in the notes on the SPDA website that the 05 front drive shafts change design? Does this mean you would need new hubs to fit?

There seems to be more 05 - 08 USDM 6 speeds about - anything stopping me from fitting one of these?
