Default Intermittent squeaking - wheel bearing or suspension bushes?

I've been getting an intermittent squeaking noise coming from one of the wheels on my MY97 UK for a while now. The car will go for miles without this sound, and then (usually at low speeds, just after driving off from a standstill) there will be a sqeaking noise. The noise is not a constant whine, it is a 'squeak-squeak-squeak' increasing in frequency with the wheel speed.

There is no correlation with turning the steering wheel, and braking does not stop or change the noise. So I do not think it is either a CV joint or the brakes.

I suspect a wheel bearing or the suspension, possibly bushes. There is no play in any of the wheels.

Has anybody had the same problem? Is it possible that it is suspension bushes, or is it likely to be a wheel bearing? Any advice much appreciated.

wheel bearing make a drone which you will hear at high speed when its starting to fail.the slower the speed when you hear it the worse the bearing is.it sounds like when you said( you first move of )the rear brake shoes sticking on.sounds like adjuster needing freed of.you to explain if you not sure on set up,although you have rear discs on car there are a small set of brake shoes in the disc hub.remove calliper, large hole in front of disc so you can wind adjuster of so you can remove disc as they tend to stick and a bitch to get of.once disc of you will see shoes.

I did not think of that, thanks That makes sense, because I've been messing around with the handbrake adjustments ever since I got the car.
