What would you folks do?

I've had my MY99 std UK Turbo for almost 3 years. In that time I've managed to rack up a paltry 14.5K miles (short commute, motorbike etc) Fully main dealer serviced as per schedule - for warranty and resale value.

Due for 45K (big) service including cam belt - AND air-con service AND body service. I am tempted to go for an oil (say 15K) service and delay the big one until I've got a few more miles (or another year). I think I'll forego the body service too (always garaged and not sure I'll keep the car forever)

I kind of resent paying for replacing parts that are probably perfectly good (do belts really perish in this day and age in England - not exactly the Sahara or Antartic is it?). AND if 1 year service intervals are OK for MY01/02 why not MY99 - same engine right?

What do you folks reckon? (before someone else says it I know I should drive it more!)

If like you say serviced to keep warranty and resale value up I guess you have answered your own question. I do understand what you mean as its not too cheap, but if it's due then do it. Although I would be very tempted myself to keep the money and leave it. (not say you should though).

i bought a my97 when it was 32 months old with 15k on the clock, i had the full cambelt service at 36 months and 19k, better safe than sorry, rather pay for the belt and fitting than a new engine

Later cars had cambelt service extended to 4year/60k so probably fine for another year... As for body service, won't make a great deal of difference I suspect. Is the car under warranty, if not why not use a specialist... Loads cheaper and generally more helpful

I'd have it done.

My warranty book states 45k miles or 36 months. I'd just broken 45k miles when I had mine done a week or so ago.

If you've had it dealer serviced for the warranty and resale, then in IMO you need to have the cambelt done as per the schedule.

Kind of expected the general concensus to be to do it to be safe.

Polarbearit - I didn't know the later cars were 60K miles - interesting. As for the warranty thats another thing I need to think about. It expires in a couple of weeks but can extend for 1 or 2 years - but of course I'm stuck with main dealers then.

Whatever happens this is going to be an expensive month with MOT, tyres, 45K service, air-con service, body service, warranty extension, tax and best of all insurance to pay for. Arrgggh!!

if i was u m8 i would get the old belt changed coz like u say its due on time but not on mileage better to be safe then sorry!!
