Advice regarding a stolen recovered vehicle
My runabout was stolen December 2007, but because it wasn't found within a month, the insurance company paid out.
However, I had a private plate on the car, and at the time, DVLA said that we had to wait a year (or for the car to be recovered) before being able to transfer it.
Hadn't heard anything from the insurance company or police about a recovery, so we wrote to DVLA about transfering the plate.
They replied that the car was actually recovered June 2008!! Hadn't heard anything at all regarding this, and that we now have to go trhough the normal channels of transferring the plate?!
How do I go about this? also, what if the insurance company have sold the car, does that mean I'm £300 out of pocket??!

Yes, the plate belongs with the car. Id guess that the insurance company is liable to you, but who in their call-centre will realise this or be able to actually deal with it?
I have been through the exact same thing you own the plate not the insurance company unless when they paid you out they included the plate,My car has still not been found so im waiting to get my plate back which will cost me nothing,Contact the insurance ask them did they pay out for the car inc plate if not you still own plate,The new owner of the car if there is one will be sent originall plate that was on the vehicle...
