Default WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THESE MALTEASE IMPORTS?

There seems to be a lot of these Maltease Subarus around for sale at the moment (well when I am looking anyway or so I am told by the dealer) when you put the registration into the price comparrison websites it does not recognise the car at all. When you type in a Japanese Import it recognises it to be a WRX but not an STI (as STI's are the only ones I have been searching for) Is this right on both counts and would you stay away from these Maltease ones? Advice needed as I am getting p*ssed off cause every decent low mileage one I am looking at is Maltease? And this is something I have never heard of cause I assumed beforehand that you either had a UK car or simply one imported direct from Japan and not via Malta?

They're just a grey (EU) import.

AFAIK only differences are no CAT 1 as standard, no locking wheel nuts, no side airbags as standard (was an option).

Mine is from Cyprus. I don't have the warranty but I believe you can get it if the car is registered properly through Subaru UK. It doesn't bother me as any stealers wouldn't touch mine with a bargepole (nor would I want them to)

As Semper says they are grey imports.....I have one LOL

Just check that the car has certificate of conformity (COC)

Apparently the interior is lighter than normal ones.

mine was from holland i think - same issue. no major differences and i asked this question some time ago.

i even had some work done under warranty a few years ago (MAF sensor). funnily enough, the original dealer in holland was more helpful than subaru UK when it came to transferring the warranty to me (i am the second owner) and i would be more than happy to buy from that particular dealer direct in future

If supplied from an EU member they are parallel import (not grey). It does make a difference with ins etc

Sorry, my mistake. It's a parallel import.

Definition of a Grey Import.
