Has anyone attempted the earthing mod from the i-club forums? (Link below)

I remember some threads about this many moons ago, but can't recall the outcome. Seems from the i-club forum that the guys that have tried it (principally those suffering from hesitation or poor throttle response) have had a noticeable improvement as a result.

The principle behind it seems to be that sensitive electronic devices (such as your ECU) benefit from having a "cleaner" grounding point which acts as a reference for the readings the ECU uses to monitor what your engine is doing. The earthing mod improves the reference ground that the ECU uses, and thus makes the reading it takes more accurate leading to improvements in "smoothness".

It's not something that will give you any power gains, and indeed, those most likely to see a benefit are where there are existing problems around "smoothness", hesitation etc.

Has anyone tried this mod - and what was the before/after comparison?

I'm intending to try this at the weekend and see what improvements it makes to my car (currently suffering from hesitation and poor on-boost performance - possibly related to failing knock sensor )

PS I've tried to summarise the findings above, but I'm no expert so excuse my mistooks if I've got my wires crossed

I did a five point job on mine, and noticed that it was slightly smoother, not too noticable, but I'm sure it did something!

Yup, definitely smoother and less interference on radio as well. Cheap to do if you have access to large crimping pliers - did mine myself and it cost about a tenner.I got the cable (105 amp) from Demon Tweeks and scrounged terminals and a loan of pliers from an electrician mate

 

Sorry to butt in on the thread, but do the 5 earthling points apply to a UK car as well?. I guess when I-club say passenger side it means drivers side for us and vice/versa, but the actual points still exist?.
Is there any particular wire and rings that work best?.
MY96 UK Turbo suffers really badly from jerking and hesitation, so I want to do it the best way possible.
Any experiences would be greatly appreciated.

The only bit missing on the above is a big drain from the body to minus terminal.

Best of luck with the "tuning" guys and gals - at the very least the audio quality should improve a bit

when I did mine, I got decent heavy duty cable, and then soldered all the ends on so that they're well connected.
One from drivers side turret, to inlet manifold.
One form passengers side turret to inlet manifold.
one from pass side turret to battery.
one from pass side inlet to battery, and one from the drivers side inlet maniflod to the battery.
Easy.
1hr tops.
