Another few questions about my P1,

1) Does anyone know what the standard boost pressure is??

2) What can the Boost pressure be turned up to with hassle??

3) Are Baffled Sumps a good idea?? I'm planning on quite a few track days

Don't know for a P1, but between 14 and 17 I would guess.

Boost can only safely be turned up with a manual or electronic boost controller if -
1. your fuel cut allows (stay 1 PSI away otherwise in sustained high gear acceleration you may overboost whilst overtaking a bus - a very fast one mind )
2. there is sufficient fuelling which is metered by the MAF sensor (ensure AFR and EGT OK with a sensible injector duty cycle)
3. you are within sensible efficiency limits of the turbo
4. the intercooler is working efficiently enough to keep the charge temps low combined with 3
5. there is enough ignition retard available for bad fuel
6. there is no knock
7. as 5 you generally have some reserve in all the safety parameters you measure

I say the above not from the experience of a mapper, but general common-sense principles allied with some knowledge from messing about with manual and electronic boost controllers.

I don't think personally that the P1 or any Japanese import is guaranteed to meet all the above criteria. Not saying it can't be done, but I think you are better getting a full remap - eg Link ECU.

 

At a recent rolling road day ooop north a bog standard p1 managed 15psi peak. 2 other modded ones were about the same.
