api did a running test iirc and with a non standard dumpvalve (baileys iirc) the car ran worst and had less mpg good enough for me.

Not worth the hassle of changing from standard. Standard one works fine for most applications. If you want the woosh noise, then go VTA, but be advised that many who have done that then reverted to the std. recirculating type comment that the car runs significantly better with the latter.

if you vent to atmosphere you're throwing away air that has already been metered and fueled for. hence you overfuel, possibly wash the bores and increase engine wear. your mpg would also be affected. this is a general statement and not specific to scoobs

Tried two differnt vta, car ran fine but felt less reposive.

On full boost car felt empty if u no what i mean, even the mrs noticed it was slower.

Gone back to standard.

But each to therre own. my mates got 1 on his bug with no issues. had it on since he bought it.

ive gone through 3 VTA's. standard recirc and blanked off completely

my experiance:

ive had baileys, HKS SSQV and last turbo smart adjustable.

favourite was the turbosmart because i have mine adjusted as hard as poss so only vta's on hard boost and lots of turbo stall chatter.

With it blanked off it feels exactly the same as when turbosmart was on only without the woosh. turbo chatter is no louder

put standard back on today and i do miss the noise on high boost as alot of the chatter has gone but imo the gear changes are 100% smoother

im staying with recirc as its a better drive but i'm sure i'll change it for meets etc for the noise

Wink

I bought mine on US Ebay Dual Stage BOV - WorxTuning Components

It can be set to full recirc, full VTA or anywhere in between, It makes a nice woooosh when giving it the beans.

+ I bet no-one on here has one, so pretty exclusive as well..

Vital safety aid, pedestrians are all deaf, they need to hear you coming !

Sorry !

dunx

P.S. Forge VTA with the stiffest spring available, so when it does, it really goes off ! No issues and 26 mpg from an STI

I've had a few VTA's on various imprezas that i've had over the years, sadly i'm a sucker for the vta noise!

I fitted a collins VTA to my last newage car and it buggered the in gear pick up so much that i removed it within a week and sold it on.

My latest JDM car (twin scroll STI) now has an APS twin dump valve. It does both, VTA and recirculates. Around town it recirulates and out on the open road it vents to atmosphere as the car can reach full boost. Its also adjustable so you can choose how much pressure it needs before VTA.

I was worried that it would bugger the in gear pick up of the car just like the last one but it still drives the same and feels perfect.

They are expensive though.

I run no DV at all. Also have a 20G.

When I originally bought my old car it had a VTA. Load of crap and fast/hard gear changes were very choppy. Changed it back to a standard recirc and driveability was much improved.

You need to run a (standard recirc) dump valve unless your turbo can handle not having one at all (TD05-18g/20g, etc).

Drilling holes in the air box is an "old school" mod to improve airflow !

ive now got an old type hks sequential bov, sounds really nice, and is a proper item, the older ones were the best apparantely and i was lucky to get it.

the bailey dv36 was loud aswell and the response on gearchange was immense.

Had a standard one too, ran the smoothest, no pops or bangs, slightly better on fuel aswell.

i think ill keep the hks seq bov as they seem to have a good rep.

even when driving normally the chatter from everything combined is

Unless you've been watching the fast and furious is there a reason to have a VTA? Most scoobies make enough noise if thats the thing that floats your boat

I'm running the APS Dual port on my 2002 Bug, I found it improved gear shifts it recirculates when under low to moderate boost, mine only VTAs on full boost, with a nice sound. Nice but expensive!
