Just been quoted 750 quid all in for a new clutch and flywheel. Do any of you guys know of anyone offering a cheaper service. I dont really want to be spending this much!! Its only just started to slip, if i floor it it starts to slip at 2500rpm and then starts to grip again at 3000 rpm

It might just be a bit of crap on the clutch.


Try doing a launch somewhere it might just solve your problem. If your clutch is fubared then you have nothing to lose.

Find a nice straight quiet road and pull to a halt. Clutch down, select first rev to about 4500rpm and then side step the clutch.
That would clear any crap off the clutch if that is indeed the problem.

As for the quote, why are they quoting for a flywheel? it might be alright for all they know.

I'd get a price from elsewhere.

 

I would not change the clutch without doing the FW, if your getting slip there is a good change the FW is marked. Not worth doing one without the other IMO.


API supplied my uprated exedy clutch and lightweight FW I fitted it myself so not sure how much labour would be. 5/6 hours should cover it. Less if you take it to a garage that does a few a week such as HDC Subaru.

Have to disagree with that one. I've reused my flywheel with new clutches plenty of times without issue. The only reason I've changed the clutches is becuse I ripped the centres out of the AP uprated jobbies ( twice in 6 months). I then went to an exedy Organic which lasted me 30k miles. Last year when going 2.5 I reused the flywheel again for a paddle clutch. No problems whatsover. This was at 450bhp.

No point shelling out money for a flywheel if it doesn't need one.

 

There is a place in Burton on Trent that makes clutches. I got a comlete clutch for my mums fiesta diesel for £40. It was a friend of mine who told me about him and he had a paddle clutch made up for his skyline for £100. Will get the number up asap.

I just brought today a 1996 wrx wagon with 109000 miles. Drove it 168 miles with no probs. Got home, dropped my brother of so we could test his 328 bm against it. Went round a corner in 3rd and it kind of juddered in the corner, ever since then the car drives like its got a really knackered clutch. I've never had a clutch go instantly like that, but i've checked the history and reciepts and cant find any thing about it bieng done. I tried to slip the clutch before i brought the car and it was good. Anyone ever had this problem? Is it as simple as a clutch? or could it be gearbox or diff?

I just changed my clutch without the flywheel, no problems. Clutch was an Exedy for £215, fitting was about £150.

 

i got mine clutch changed, £190 labor, and the bite is great, but its making a whining noise like the inner bearings are ****ed but its was a totally new clutch and parts.??? strange.
