does anyone know wot year this gearbox if from , and wot power will it take before it blows up

i bought a sport wich has been converted to a turbo but last owner didnt know wot it year it was from niether ?

also wot diff will match the gearbox ?

its from a 04-05 wrx uk. it has different shafts to any ty754vn box

 

I recently fitted a 5AA box to my uk my00, the shafts are indeed different to normal, the original ones had stuby shafts on the box, that the shaft joint slid over and then a roll pin stopped it coming off, the 5AA box uses a female shaft that actually slots straight into the diff, if you wish to fit this box, you need to use the shafts that go with it, i ended up with the inner joint and shaft from the newer car, but the cv joint from my one.... thankfully all the plines were suitable!!

5AA is alledgedly a stronger box, as it was fitted to the 2.5's...... apparently 3rd gear is wider, therefore will take more power before it breaks, but no doubt it will still break at some point....Lol!!

 

Abso-rootin'-tootin' lootely right Ron.

The rear drop gear bearings are changed for taper rollers to stop the eternal failures of the old style ball races and certain gear train parts are bigger / wider/ stronger.

Front drive shafts do not separate with a roll pin as before, they now fit straight into the diff. IE. no stump shafts.

The side seals are larger to take the late style driveshafts too.

Hi David, no, the box i had from you is fine... bit notchy into 1st, but i can live with that....

The 5AA was the one i stupidly bought from the breaker.... that was seemingly broken!!...LOL!!!

yeah i noticed the different shafts as i not long fitted a clutch

well better news then wot the lad told me i bought it off , he claimed it was 96 runnig gear, but i didnt really have much to do with scoobys when i bought it so i just went along with him

Careful here, 'cos TY754 VNanything is from a car newer than 1999 - so there is no chance that it is from a 96 car.

It may have been fitted in a 96 car, but it's not from a 96 car. BUT if you want to put it in a 96 UK car [ NOT JDM ] then it'll go in fine and work well.

They are, however the actual cv's aren't, the newer ones oddly don't have an abs ring on them, or, the ones i had didn't.....
