What are the symptoms of a shagged rear diff on a uk turbo my98?

Mine seems very easy too easy infact to get the back end to come out, i mean i am not being a **** in anyway trying to get it out i am talking 20 mph round a tight corner and out it swings. Also reversing off my drive with lock on i get a clunk and this is hard to describe like a twanging noise and the cars shifts slightly, if that makes any sense

My money's on centre diff being somehow locked...... i think the rears are almost bullet proof..... where-as centres aren;t!!

 

My rear diff failed due to lack of oil. Symptom was a loud wine that sounded like it was coming from the gearbox when it was actually reverberating down the propshaft.

The knocking on reverse is a symptom you get when you have a DCCD centre diff fully locked i.e 50:50.

It's definately sounding like a cente diff issue.

 

The twanging in reverse could just be the handbrake shoes holding in a bit....

The tail swiging out isn't something you'll get from either a knackered rear or cemntre diff, locked they will cause understeer, open and you'll get a bit of power oversteer, but not really what you describe.

Hi, just brought a 1996 wrx wagon, drove it home 168 miles, went to have a play with my brothers 328 bm and half way round a corner it juddered, and now i hardly get any drive. It just like when a clutch is completely shagged, but i've never known a clutch to go instantly. Any ideas? Do centre diffs or gearboxes ever do this when they go? Checked the history and theres nothing to say its ever had a clutch. Any help would be excellent.
