i was wondering if an 02 wrx-ej20 tranny will bolt directly to a 93 wrx ej20 block or if i will need to do any modifications... if not which others will fit?

Yes it will fit the only difference is the bell housing on the gearbox has a couple more bolts, which are unused. You will also need the matching rear diff for the gearbox too.

As long you have the matching gearbox/diff combo, you can fit pretty much anything to car.
