Question

I know this is probably an old subject, but what is the general opinion of the Prodrive back box? I'm looking for something that will give my standard MY00 a deeper tune, but not too intrusive at normal speeds.

Tim,

On the P1 the upgrade box is just right; not as loud as a Scoobysport. Can be a little `wearing` when trundling around but worth it.

I sold the standard P1 box to a friend (standard turbo) who claims it`s not quite `loud` enough but better than the standard item.

Hope that helps ?

Cheers

As well as the P1 BB, there is a WR Sport one with oval tailpipe (120x75mm).

This is a little louder than standard, but mainly gives a lower tone to the exhaust. I'm told it's one of the quieter BB's, but it still sounds far better than the standard pea-shooters!

I've got a PPP Back Box on my MY99 - makes the car sound with a deeper burble.

If you boot it then it does roar much better than std, IMHO there is a little increase in power.

I have heard Magnex 6x4 and it isnt as loud as that.

Go for it - its a doddle to fit - you should find one for about 100-130 gbp.

Should say I did consider the WR Sport box but Subaru Dealer wanted 350 to supply!!!

Are you sure that the PPP equiped car didn't have a full exhaust on?
It is the first time I am hearing that the Magnex is quiter than the Prodrive. I personally have heard the Prodrive box and it is much quiter than the Magnex.

I have Prodrive BB on a MY96 UK Turbo, sounds great with the windows down, but doesn't rattle the ears when driving normal. I thinks its the best of both worlds.
Cheers.

Hmm...is the P1 back box the same thing as the PPP? Where can I get a PPP back box for £130, as two local dealers quoted £360?! I asked for a price on "a Prodrive exhaust", so did they quote me for a WR Sport bb, I wonder? Sorry if I'm asking questions to very basic things, but I'm kinda new at this lark!

AFAIK the P1 backbox is not the same as the PPP one.

Keep an eye on the For Sale forum, you should get one for £130-160.

I was under the impression we are talking about three BBs here:

1. Prodrive WR Sport oval backbox sold by dealers
2. Prodrive Performance pack backbox only sold as part of PPP
3. P1 upgrade backbox

I have heard 1 and have 2 now with decat downpipe as well as the decat centre section. I think this setup (fully decat) is quieter than most cars with just a SS backbox and both cats still in. I tried John Harley's Blitz Nurspec and it was the loudest Scooby I have every heard but from the way the boost behaved you could tell it was less restrictive, although putting the boost so it was the same I could not honestly tell a difference in performance. The PPP backbox is quite blowey at high revs - I personally like it. I wanted a quiet BB as I have to drive through estates that belong to upper class types and also do night visits occasionally using the Scooby so I could not have it loud. Besides the Blitz was unbelievably loud and I could not live with it day to day.

Does the held boost go up as well as the peak on the factory boost control John?

Cool

I think the peak went up 1psi and the held about 0.5psi.it may be more though as your car started hitting fuel cut on every WOT run once the ECU relearned after 5/6miles didn't it.
