Question

I'm currently running an MY00, decat exhaust, uoprates suspension and brakes.
Would I get any benefit changing my ITG panel filter to an induction kit??
I don't intend modding the car any further.

Any comments appreciated

No IMHO. I changed back and prefer the lack of noise. It is just as fast!

John,

You seem to be a pretty knowledgable fella on most things scoob, I read your "boost" threads with interest, not that I understand a lot of it. Why did you come to this conclusion and if correct why wouldn't an induction kit help to improve the performance.
Are the ITG's that good (I run one). On one hand my dealer keeps on telling me to fit an induction kit, saying I will experience massive gains, whereas PE says only slight improvements will be noticed and SS have said they make no difference at all.
Who do you believe?

Cheers,

Scott

ONLY MY PERSONAL OPINION:

An induction kit draws warm air from the engine may. This may not be significant at speed.

Some allege that induction kits have poor filtration.

Some say they cause MAF failures because of poor filtration and/or vibration.

They make a heck of a noise.

I think they knock the low down torque slightly in exchange for possibly a bit more at the top end.

It was the noise that made me go back. The original panel does feel a little more sluggish. Changing to ITG panel gave a few tiny extra noises and seemed to free up the throttle response.

Funny the attitude of your dealer - most are dead against induction kits - even aside from warranty issues.

But I don't have huge respect for most dealers I have come across personally - they overfill oil levels and then suggest running on NUL to sort the overboost out, damage things, set tyre pressures incorrectly (dangerously) and recommend RE010 as the best tyre for Scoobies, and say that the geometry from the factory is usually very good, as well as try and sell me overpriced rubbish speakers every time I visit. Interesting opinions some of these dealers And that in only four visits! I dread the next dealer visit for what they will mess up next, but I want the stamps in the book.

Have to agree with your last comments on oil, speakers, tyres etc!!!!!!
The same dealer told me they were reckoning on nearly 300bhp out of and my98 (Directors car) with blitz induction, SS x'zorst, PPP chip and slightly up'd boost levels. That kinda says it all really!!

Cool

Hey John - don't beat about the bush M8 - say what you think

The induction question may only be answered if I try one on my own car, and also seems to be a big personal preference if you can live with the noise. Before and after on a rolling road back to back would be the most accurate measure I think!

Have also heard stories of the ITG's leaving a 'gungy' residue in the air box - will check tonight.

Sadly not. For small gains (say under 10 BHP) there are too many errors on rolling roads IMHO to be able to compare. Heat soak, tyres on rollers, ECU adjusting to mod - do you go and drive 30 miles in between? Too many variables which will give more changes than the difference you are trying to measure? Rolling roads strike me as being about as unreliable a measuring device as ever there was.

The ITG gunge issue - seems to stay on the side of the filter away from the MAF and only seems to happen if you squeeze it/fit incorrectly.

Blue,

My car has the K&N 57i Induction Kit fitted, did you not notice the extra 'Induction' noise and 'Dump Valve' whooshing on gear change.

I can see it annoying people and I have to say it does nothing for me. But because it cost me ~£90 it is staying on.

Damian.

Blue, how do you get the smiley laughing faces after text.
I will never feel like a proper scooby regular until I know how to do this.

Sorry to go off thread
