Default Steering Judder and Squeaking

I have been hearing a squeak on startup over the last few days, and I thought it was the aircon belt, but it now squeaks if I steer whilst stationary and towards the extents of steering I get a judder through the wheel, as if the pump is labouring to turn the wheel. Its on an MY02 WRX by the way. Any ideas, geniuses of Scoobynet?

Probably low on power steering fluid, have you checked for leaks?

Yup could be your power steering belt just needs tightening. Pop along to the dealer and ask them to tighten the tensioner. £15+VAT.

I had a look at the belt on Friday, or should I say belts! It had broken down into one big belt and two little belts and was well on its way to snapping. One belt at £7 and half an hours labour later, everything is rosy in the garden again!! Thanks for the replies.
