Sorry if this is a stupid question but would it be necessary to disconnect the power steering pipe from the steering rack during a gearbox removal, strip down & refit?

My MY05 WRX suffered a loss of power steering shortly after being returned following a gearbox strip down. It was found that the power steering pipe had come off the steering rack resulting in a lot of mess and loss of all the fluid.

I've never had similar but seems a coincidence that it happened so soon after getting it back from the dealer.
