Bought an MY98 Impreza Sport from a Subaru dealer last year.
It's got 71k on the clock and has full Subaru warranty.

When I picked it up the dealer said that synchro crunch in 1st/2nd was something I will have to live with due to the mileage ?!

Is this correct or should a main dealer fix this under warranty ?

Any help would be appreciated

No,

Get a lighter viscous gearbox oil, or try a synthetic oil.

There are also performance oils out there which fix these sort of problems.

My car did 300,000Km before I got synchro crunch, and that was straight after the mechanics replaced them, and 6 months later second gear parted company.
